Mr. Narayana (Nic) J Money has been working continuously in Africa since 1966 as a geosciences professional.
He served the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) as a geologist for thirty-one years and on his fourteenth year of service was appointed Director of the Geological Survey Department and served in that position for 17 years until his retirement in 1997. He was also Director of Prescribed Mineral and Material Commission (the Atomic Energy Agency of Zambia) and Head of Geological Unit for SADC countries for over 10 years. During his tenure at the Geological Survey, he initiated the search for oil and uranium in Zambia as well as the pilot project on geothermal energy at Kapisya Hot Springs. He with the assistance of the World Bank and BGS ensured the compilation and publication of over 50 geological maps and reports. He has over 70 technical reports and publications on geoscience of Zambia.
Some of the key projects, Mr. Money engaged-in were: for the World Bank on oil, European Community on geological mapping, UNDP on mineral surveys, IAEA on uranium agreements, Commonwealth Secretariat on SADC’s mineral evaluation programme, ECA on African Geology and regional cooperation, and SADC on geological compilation including mineral assessment. In addition, he was involved with energy policy matters including promotion and use of solar power and geothermal issues. On retirement, he has been a consultant in geology and heads a drilling service company. Mr. Money is a sitting Councilor of the Association of Zambian Mineral Exploration Companies (AZMEC) where he represents and reports on energy minerals and water sectors. He continues to play a role in promoting mineral exploration, energy issues, environmental education and geological engineering of construction works. His current interests include search for battery minerals, placer diamonds and renewable energy options.
Mr. Money holds a BA (Hons) Geology and MSc in Economic Geology from the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London, and a Fellow of Geological Society of India and a long standing Member of the Geological Society of South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Mr. Money is the country Director for Shapoorji Pallonji Group of India and a Director of Melki Mining.
