FIRST QUANTUM MINERALS


First Quantum Minerals Ltd is a global metals and mining company producing mainly copper, gold and zinc. The company’s assets are in Zambia, Spain, Mauritania, Australia, Finland, Turkey, Panama, Argentina and Peru. In 2018, First Quantum produced 605,853 tonnes of copper, 185,414 ounces of gold and 26,807 tonnes of zinc. In Zambia FQM has invested US$6.4 billion in its Kansanshi mine – the largest copper mine in Africa by production – and smelter, and the Sentinel and Enterprise mines in Kalumbila. The company is Zambia’s largest taxpayer, and in addition to the US$3.85 billion paid by the mine in taxes, and employment of 9,000 staff, the company has spent over US$100 million since 2010 on sustainability programmes in the communities in which it works. This has included health programmes, conservation farming, education, scholarships and skills training programmes, infrastructure development and gender equality programmes.
