Thea Fourie is a Senior Economist: Sub-Saharan Africa at IHS Markit, based in the company’s South African office. She is responsible for analysing and forecasting economic developments in South Africa, Angola, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia, Comoros, Madagascar and Reunion. She is also responsible for country and sovereign risk analysis and the day-to-day economic coverage of these economies. She covers major development on the continent through special report writing and presentations to clients. Prior to joining IHS Markit, Fourie was a financial economist at ING Barings, BOE NatWest Securities, and ABSA Bank, specializing in macro and financial economic analysis of the South African economy. Her expertise also includes macro-econometric modelling and macro-economic analysis. Fourie holds a B.Econ (Hons.) degree from the University of Pretoria and is fluent in both Afrikaans and English. With more than 20 years of experience in the financial and consulting industry, she is an expert in analysing strategically important economies in the sub-Saharan region.
