He is currently Head of the Mineral Resources Unit and a Senior Advisor in the Office of the Commissioner for Trade and Industry, African Union Commission (AUC). Prior to being appointed Head of Minerals Unit, Mr. Mugyenyi worked as a Senior Industry Advisor in the Office of the Commissioner since 2013. In this capacity Mr. Mugyenyi advises the Commissioner as well as African Union member States on industry and mineral resource development policies. Mr. Mugyenyi has also been in charge of the implementation of Africa Mining Vision (AMV) within the framework African Union Agenda 2063 “Ä global strategy to optimize use of Africa’s resources for the benefit of all Africans” and other initiatives. In this capacity, Mr. Mugyenyi has championed the establishment of the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) as a Specialised Agency of the African Union.
Prior to joining the AUC, Mr. Mugyenyi worked for a number of international organizations and UN Agencies including Christian Aid (UK), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization UNIDO, the International Trade Centre (ITC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) serving in various capacities as a Senior Economist, Senior Advisor to member States on trade and industry policies and on building productive capacity for trade and enterprise development particularly SMEs with specific focus on women and youth linking them to markets. He also worked on building and strengthening of Institutions and organizations that support trade and industrial development including: Private Sector Apex Bodies, Regional Industrial Sectoral Associations as well as Regional Intergovernmental Agencies.
Mr. Mugyenyi adheres to the Pan-African beliefs and he is very passionate, enthusiastic and inspired by an Africa that is self-sufficient, self-reliant and self-dependent. An integrated Africa that is prosperous, industrialized and driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in global arena.
